Iván Martínez
Iván Martínez is a Mexican graphic designer who created the custom typeface and script developed specifically for Ca'Buccari. He is also responsible for all of Ca'Buccari's printed matter and general visual identity. The versatile script appears throughout in various iterations and variations, all based on the original handwriting of "Ca'Buccari."
The font and characters are inspired by the specific location of Ca’Buccari and the numerous routes within the city to reach it. The shapes that form the characters of the identity were taken from actual top views of Venice, and their arrangement allows the audience to form paths while reading the text, as it occurs when walking.
Iván Martínez is a graphic designer based in Mexico City, specializing in the editing, design, and production of artist books and culture-related publications. His work develops fictional spatial narratives and publications inspired by the aesthetics of rumor and its mechanisms of propagation. He trained at UAM Xochimilco in Mexico City and completed his master's studies at ArtEZ / Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem, followed by a residency at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. His clients include institutions such as Palais de Tokyo, Portikus, Het Nieuwe Instituut, Stedelijk Museum, Museo Jumex, and MUAC.
