During his residency he will build a collection of words and, recordings of Venetian expressions, with the ultimate goal of creating a filastrocca – a short piece of poetry, characterised by simple language, a lively rhythm, and frequent rhymes or assonances – to be performed coinciding with the program of the Venetian Biennale Musica – International Festival of Contemporary Music in October.
An artist born in Mirano, on the mainland of Venice, and based in Zurich, Switzerland, Francesco Cagnin studied at IUAV (Venice), SOMA (Mexico City), and graduated at ECAL (Lausanne) in 2016. His work has been exhibited internationally, including at Autokomanda Belgrade, Kunsthalle Zürich, Centre d’Art Contemporain Geneva, and the 16th Quadriennale di Roma.

During her residency Maya Tounta will explore the converging histories of Venice and art through artists’ moving-image works and archival film, approaching the city as a projection screen for successive visions of art and culture.
During her residency Maya Tounta will explore the converging histories of Venice and art through artists’ moving-image works and archival film, approaching the city as a projection screen for successive visions of art and culture.
Ranging from Edison films of Venice at the turn of the twentieth century to Susan Sontag’s Unguided Tour (1983), her research will consider how different acts of observing and staging Venice have produced images of both the city and art’s changing sense of itself. The residency will conclude with the first iteration of a film programme, which is envisioned to coincide with the Venice International Film Festival in September. More here
A curator and writer based between Athens and Vilnius, Maya Tounta is the co-founder and director of Akwa Ibom, a nonprofit exhibition space established with Otobong Nkanga in 2019. In 2024, she co-curated the 15th Baltic Triennial, Same Day, at the Contemporary Art Centre in Vilnius. Formerly Art Director of e-flux Journal, she has written for publications including Flash Art, CURA., and Apartamento.
