Yalda Afsah's upcoming exhibition Still in the Dark follows bodies caught in collective rituals that have no place in usual categories. Afsah explores how violence builds community – and the way contemporary anxieties materialize in forms the present claims to have outgrown.
Comprising two films and an installation facing the public park, the exhibition circles a fracture; the more legible we have made the world, the less we know what holds it together.
Comprising two films and an installation facing the public park, the exhibition circles a fracture; the more legible we have made the world, the less we know what holds it together.
The exhibition is located in a city shaped by recurring rhythms—the water tides, the cyclical return of processions and masquerades—that have long turned public space into a stage; in Afsah's work, too, space appears constructed as though it had arranged itself for its own image.
