Christopher Williams /
Kochgeschirr Schuhwaren
Pedagogical Prop  12-Inch Single 45 RPM  FMP S7

Kochgeschirr Schuhwaren is the sixth in a series of exhibitions combining distinct features of Christopher Williams' practice. In his customary cryptic and self-referential way, Williams draws on a previous show at gta Exhibitions, ETH Zurich, and a string of playful displays at various locations throughout Europe, reshaping these elements anew for Venice.

Presented at Ca' Buccari, the exhibition functions as an advertisement for the premiere of Pedagogical Prop, a 45 RPM 12" vinyl single. At its core is a double recording of the radio play Inklusive by the German playwright Franz Xaver Kroetz (1972), itself based on the reading of a hotel brochure for a beach resort in Grado, in the Venetian lagoon. Drawing on elements from previous iterations of the project, the exhibition adds further layers hinting at the local specificities of Venice. Various 'advertisements' for the record are interspersed with hotel views, gondoliers, and references to recording studios.
